Reflecting their "long night into morning" jam sessions, Steve & Jay decided to record their songs using a stripped down, acoustic styled production, affording the music an almost "live" feel. In an attempt to pay tribute to the acoustic guitar as an instrumental component of their song-writing process, "Disambiguation" was recorded using primarily acoustic guitars and non-amplified harmonica. On the CD, the "disambiguation" of their collaboration is best represented in their blending of their respective varying rhythm guitar styles (Steve uses a pick and Jay plays "finger-style"). The production work on lead vocals, layered background vocals, lead guitar, and overall musical arrangement, is another matter altogether, lending the album a rather eccentric & creative musical flair.
